Make a donation.

Your donation to The Orange Butterfly Foundation will make a significant impact on the lives of the over 700,000 Australians living with a traumatic brain injury. With 1 in every 40 Australians affected, and 2 out of every 3 injuries occurring before the age of 25, it is crucial that we raise awareness, provide access to resources, and promote understanding and acceptance for those affected and their families.

Your support will help us create a community where individuals with brain injuries can reach their full potential and live a fulfilling life. With your help, we can bring positivity to the darkness and turn challenges into opportunities

Who we are

  • To bring invaluable financial benevolent support and community awareness surrounding concussion and traumatic brain injury to the wider public and brain injury communities in order to improve quality of life, through access to rehabilitation products and services, and decrease negative societal attitudinal barriers.

  • The Orange Butterfly Foundation is an organisation that will be serving the community in a positive and meaningful manner. Delivering financial relief and benefit to those people living with TBI. Financial benevolent funding is a critical part of our existence.

  • The Orange Butterfly will co-ordinate its activities with various disability, community and government organisations.

The Orange Butterfly will introduce a head safety educational program for primary school age students, and will continue to run free awareness community events supporting and advocating for societal acceptance, supporting less social isolation and inclusion in the brain injury and wider disability community. The monthly ‘Butterfly Hour’ being a key example of this component of the organisation so far.

  • The Orange Butterfly Foundation aims to create a supportive community for individuals with brain injuries and disabilities, provide funding and access to crucial rehabilitation equipment and services, raise awareness about TBI and concussion, and ultimately reduce the number of accidents in schools and sports clubs.

Upcoming Butterfly Hour events & more.

Spending time in nature helps to reduce overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression, it can support and increase our ability to concentrate and think clearer, boost creativity and encourages connection building. Spending time in nature also has the ability to lower the amount of stress hormone, cortisol, we have in our bodies, ultimately calming our body’s fight or flight responses which often can become heightened after a brain injury.

Join The Orange Butterfly community on the last Saturday of every month in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to spend an hour in nature connecting with others. The hour is yours! Grab a coffee from the cafe, go for a beautiful walk, bring a picnic rug and lay in the sun, play with the kids, or sit amongst the calming environment and take some time for yourself. We have had some very successful Butterfly Hour’s with special guest speakers on the agenda from time to time.

  • “The Orange Butterfly has been hugely beneficial for people and families impacted by acquired brain injury both here in South Australia and far beyond.”

    Edward Weaver.

Discipline Lead Psychology and Manager Rewire Development, Brain Injury SA

  • “As a member of the disability community, a long-time advocate and an employee of a disability rights organisation, I cannot stress just how valuable Lauren's work through The Orange Butterfly and Butterfly Hours are creating a community, both online and in person where disabled and non-disabled people can organically connect, learn, share and heal together in nature is particularly crucial in a current world where isolation is a huge and growing issue. This Butterfly Hour community is a safety net for people as well as an opportunity for them to broaden their circles and form genuine connections."

    Belle Owen,

Disabled woman, team leader JFA Purple Orange.

  • The monthly Butterfly Hour events provide people with the opportunity to learn useful information and form new connections in a setting that is not just physically beautiful (being the Botanic Gardens) but filled with an atmosphere of warmth, compassion and community-sprit. This is unsurprising, as these are the qualities embodied by Lauren herself. People with ABI are at high risk for social isolation, and I’ve personally witnessed how The Butterfly Hour connects isolated people and facilitates the forging of new friendships, which from a mental health perspective is invaluable."

    Edward Weaver,

Discipline Lead Psychology and Manager Rewire Development, Brain Injury SA.

  • "I’ve attended Butterfly Hour since the beginning and it is incredible to see just how much it has grown but also the amazing community that has been built and is still growing because of her hard work. Whether it be giving the opportunity for those with TBI a chance to talk and connect with each other who have experienced similar circumstances or for supporters of Lauren from the wider community to learn and listen, it’s obvious to see how special this community is and how much it means to everyone. I have learnt so much from Lauren and this wonderful community, and it has certainly helped me to be confident in connecting with and understanding diverse backgrounds."

    Olivia Labrosciano,

Marketing Director at St Michaels College.

  • "I have known Lauren Spear all of her life. I have seen her before her accident and now after. All I can say is that this woman is amazing, a credit to herself and her family. Lauren cares about people living with a disability, she wants to change this part of the world, not all of it, just her part of it and that’s incredible. As a former Charitable CEO with Legacy SA, I know what it takes to run a charity, I know what it means to be transparent and accountable. I know Lauren can do this and not only well, but make a difference in this critical sector."

    Peter Ali

Former Charitable CEO and Board Member.

  • "I worked closely with Lauren at a special school for autistic children between 2016-2018 and found her to be a colleague of high calibre, both personally and professionally. She was a talented and enthusiastic teacher who instantly showed leadership qualities. One of her many strengths as a teacher was her dedication to her students and sincere interest in their wellbeing. She provided a rich learning environment and her innovative ideas allowed each of her students to thrive. "

    Julie Moretti,

    Teacher.
